Make-up Exam Policy

  • Make-up exams may be given only if the student has a serious and substantive excuse for missing an exam. (Serious illness, emergency business, death in the family, or similar.)
  •  While at Webster, students are allowed only one opportunity to take a make-up exam. If a student requests a second opportunity, he/she will have to submit a petition to the Academic Director.
  •  The documentation (hard copy, in English or German language) of the reason for missing an exam must be submitted before proceeding with the   request for a make-up exam.
  •  Make-up exams will be different from and more difficult than the original exam.
  •  Make-up exam will always be given after the scheduled exam.
Academic Honesty and Cheating
The University is committed to high standards of academic honesty. Students will be held responsible for violations of these standards.
A special Honor Code that the Vienna Student Council has developed applies to students and faculty.
Any student found cheating on any part of the course work (homework assignment, term paper, quiz, exam, etc.) will automatically be given an “F” for the course.  Any student found to be helping another student to cheat will likewise be given an “F” for the course.  In each case, the student will also be put on disciplinary probation for the remainder of her or his stay at Webster.  If the student is found to have engaged in cheating a second time, s/he will be automatically expelled from the University.

Attendance
Class attendance is obligatory. Instructors are required to take attendance at each class session. If a student has two unexcused absences (equivalent to missing 4 hours for an 8-week course and 6 hours for a 15-week course), the instructor will lower the student's grade by one letter grade and inform the student of the action. If a student has three unexcused absences (equivalent to missing 6 hours for an 8-week course and 9 hours for a 15 week course), the instructor will assign a grade of F and inform the student of the action.
Only excused absences for medical or family emergencies will be accepted. Official documentation in English or German must be submitted to the instructor.
Class begins punctually. Instructors are entitled to penalize any late arrivals, which may affect a student’s final grade.

Disturbances
Since every student is entitled to full participation in class without interruption, disruption of class by inconsiderate behavior is not acceptable. Students are expected to treat the instructor and other students with dignity and respect, especially in cases where a diversity of opinion arises. Students who engage in disruptive behavior are subject to disciplinary action, including removal from the course.
All and any use of a cell phone is strictly prohibited during class. Students using a cell phone may be sent out of the classroom, which may result in an unexcused absence. If a calculator is needed in any class, the student must bring a calculator—and not a cell phone. Using cell phone applications is not permitted. No exceptions!
It is up to the individual instructor to rule on the use of laptops or I-pads. Instructors have the right to prohibit students’ use of such electronic devices.

Contact Hours for this Course
It is essential that all classes meet at the scheduled time. If a class session is cancelled for any reason, it will be rescheduled and the regular attendance policy applies also to any make-up class.

Student Assignments Retained
Student assignments or projects may occasionally be retained by the University for the purpose of academic assessment.   In every case, should the assignment or project be shared outside the academic department, the student's name and all identifying information about that student will be redacted from the assignment or project.

Special Services
If you have registered as a student with a documented disability and are entitled to classroom or testing accommodations, please discuss your special needs with your advisor.  S/he will then inform your instructors of the accommodations you will require in this class so that these can be provided. It is solely your responsibility to communicate a documented disability in advance of your course registration.
