3rd Webster Vienna Alumni Symposium

Where do we go with Ruble & Co? - Strategies for Russia's recovery

Monday, November 15, 2010, Palais Eschenbach

In 2008, Russia was severely hit by the international crisis. The country was affected far more than anyone had originally expected. Some analysts even called for removing the “R” out of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), considering that Russia was the only one of the BRIC countries showing negative growth. Since then, the situation has relaxed. After a period of contraction, the Russian economy started to recover as the year 2009 came to a close. Consequently, there was a notable increase in optimism for 2010. Yet, the question is whether the economy can truly recover considering the several endemic problems the country still has. What will be the future of Russia – its place among other nations in the global labor market, in the system of international relations, and in global culture? Does Russia have a chance to build a new, free, prosperous, and strong Russia?

At the 3rd Webster Vienna Alumni Symposium, a panel of experts will discuss avenues for sustainable development, lessons learned from the crisis and implications of the current situation for local and foreign investors doing business in Russia.

The Österreichische Gewerbeverein für Industrie, Gewerbe, Handel und freie Berufe will be the host of the evening in Palais Eschenbach.
