Art Exhibition: Hitler's Bathtub

Shifting Consciousness

10 Jul 2012. Opening at 6 pm.
Webster University, Vienna, Seminar room, 1st floor

The famous photo of Lee Miller taking a bath would not have reached its current iconic status - had it not been for its revelatory title, "Hitler’s Bathtub." This is an exemplary case of how a title/text can shift the perception of an artwork to different dimensions. Does contemporary art only come to meaning with a sufficient title, with supplementary texts? What is art, especially in today’s world? Is art unable to stand on its own, ever dependent on the ambiguous world of art criticism? Ten students from Webster University Vienna’s Art & Philosophy course, under the direction of Dr. Stefan Kutzenberger, aim to raise questions at the role and the definition of contemporary art with various experiments at shifting the consciousness. ,

Entrance is free and free refreshments included.
