First Time Visa Application
If you are a student from outside the European Union (EU) and the EEA, also referred to as third country nationals, you must apply for and receive a student permit i.e. “resident permit student” before you come to Austria to commence your course of studies.
It is a first time application when you are applying for a student visa to study in Austria legally for the very first time. If you have been in the country with any other visa such as “C” or “D” or under a Diplomatic status that is expiring, then you will need to file a first time application.

Visa Renewals
Applications for renewal must be submitted to the MA35 of your district; following documents will be needed:
- Application form, (Translation of application)
- Proof of performance (Studienerfolgsnachweis) -please sign up at the reception
- Certification of enrollment (Inskribtionsbestätigung)-please sign up at the reception

- Passport
- 1 Passport photo
- Statement from the “Kreditschutzverband” at the KSV Service, Wagenseilgasse 7, 1120 Vienna; T.: 050 1870-1101, F.: 050 1870 991101, email: ksv.sa@ksv.at
- Proof of sufficient financial means; NB: if the family of the student intends to live in Austria, the financial means must be higher than that of the student alone. (Please refer to bottom of page!)
- Address of residence and proof of justification (e.g.: tenancy agreement, proof of residence in a dormitory)
INFORMATION ON PROOF OF SUFFICIENT FINANCIAL MEANS
Documentation is officially valid when Austrian authorities can verify the details given
1. Proof of sufficient financial means for the living costs for the duration of the stay but only for a maximum of one year in advance for students up to 24 years of age EUR 450 per month
b. over 24 years of age EUR 814.83 per month
c. These amounts include the rent for accommodation of up to EUR 260.36 per month. If the rent is higher, additional funds have to be proved.
d. These funds can be proved by means of a savings book at an Austrian bank, the proof of the purchase of travelers checks or a declaration of guarantee of a person living in Austria.

2. A pledge of scholarship if applicable NB: Proof of sufficient financial means (e.g. letter of grants, bank statement of last two months [parent's account accepted], other proof of income, original proof of scholarship)
3. A Verpflichtungserklärung (statement of liability). It is recognized according to § 19 par 3 FrG, if the person of liability lives in Austria and has a regular income which can be verified by the Austrian authorities (at least EURO 872 net plus at least EURO 182 for every dependent or every person he/she is liable for).
a. Documents to be produced:
i. Verpflichtungserklärung certified by a judicial court or by a notary
ii. Proof of the income of the person of liability (bail)
iii. A copy of the relevant pages of the passport of the person of liability (bail)
iv. Proof of nationality, if the person of liability is an Austrian. People from foreign countries have to produce a copy of their residence permit
Statements from persons, companies or banks outside Austria saying that an account showed the relevant coverage on a specific day, or a tuition deposit is not valid under any circumstances.
