Student Council Kick-Off Meeting
Do you want to contribute to the Webster community and put your ideas into practice? Join the Student Council and make a difference! If you are interested, come to our Kick-Off Meeting on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 6:00 pm in room 223. There you can get to know the Student Council board as well as current members and hear more about the Student Council’s current projects. Nayeli Urquiza Haas, BA '02, MA '08, is inviting the Webster community to a one-day exhibit of ther photographic work. A group of friends and supporters have organized the exhibition, and the inauguration and one-day only exhibit will be held on Friday, September 3, from 7:00-11:30 pm, at Wesens.Art gallery. There will be light refreshments and the pictures will be on sale.

Thursday, September 9th two representatives from Webster's Thailand campus, Samrat Ray Chaudhuri (Associate Director) and Bruce Keele (Professor), are coming to Vienna to talk about the Thailand campus and its undergraduate and graduate programs there in Cha-am and Bangkok.

Which Diplomacy for a Fragmented World?
Speaker: Ambassador (ret.) Wendelin Ettmayer
Mr. Ettmayer has served as Austria's Ambassador to Finland, Canada as well as Head of the Austrian Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
During the period 1977 to 1993 he was a Member of the Austrian National Parliament. He has published a series of articles and books on the conduct of foreign policy.
Guest Lecture: Humanitarian Diplomacy
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement as a Major Actor in the Global Humanitarian System
Speaker: Mr. Max Santner - Head of International Aid of the Austrian Red Cross
This guest-lecture will present the tight-rope walk between the guiding principles of a silent and sovereign negotiator such as the ICRC and the realities in the field. Mr. Santner has been in various humanitarian missions in South Asia and beyond. He had to conduct negotiations in difficult conditions of failing states. He will share with us his professional experience and highlight the role of the human being as the essential factor in all forms of conduct of foreign and humanitarian policy.
