Dr. Pollak is a Senior Research Professor at Webster University in Vienna. He also teaches at several other universities, amongst them the universities of Vienna and Salzburg. He is a regular reviewer for Oxford University Press, West European Politics, Government and Opposition, EUROGOV, Journal of European Public Policy, European Journal of Political Research, Österreichische Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaften, Journal of European Integration, European Political Science Review, European Integration Online Papers, ConWEB. Furthermore, he is a member of the European Consortium for Political Research and the Austrian Society for Political Science. He also acts as expert evaluator for the European Commission since 2000, is European Research Council evaluator 2009-2013 and EUCYS jury member 2007-2009.
Dr. Pollak has vast experience conducting and coordinating European research projects. He is editor of the series "‘Europa kompakt" of UTB/WUV and has published more than 50 articles in scientific journals. The latest articles deal with the problem of democratic representation in supranational entities (Journal of European Public Policy) and the relation between political representation and accountability (West European Politics). His latest monograph covers normative political questions of European unification (Repräsentation ohne Demokratie, 2007); the last edited volume deals with politics and personality (Politik und Persönlichkeit, 2009). Dr. Pollak is currently working on several books dealing with European Energy Issues, a book on ‘Representation in the European Union and he also leads a project (part of an FP-6 research consortium: RECON) on questions of representative democracy.
Before joining Webster, Dr. Pollak was Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for European Integration Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He has been Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute Florence, 2003-2004; Leverhulme Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading, June 2007 – March 2008 and Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
