Background and Facts

Mr. Geyerhofer received his Mag. phil. in psychology at Vienna University in 1988. He he has completed special training programs in "Leading Groups" and in "Parental Training" at the Institute of Psychology. After training in Behavior Therapy he received special training in Systemic Family Therapy and Strategic Brief Therapy at the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California. He is licensed in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology and Psychotherapy with an emphasis on Systemic Family Therapy, and he is also a licensed Supervisor of the Austrian Association of Systemic Therapies and Systemic Studies.

Mr. Geyerhofer is especially interested in applying the systemic approach, that he found helpful in his professional experience as a psychologist and psychotherapist to various areas of psychology and human life in general.

In 1989, Mr. Geyerhofer co-founded the Institute for Systemic Therapy (IST) in Vienna. Since then he has been working as a Clinical Psychologist, Health Psychologist and Psychotherapist at IST with individuals, couples, and families seeking help for various kinds of problems (fears, obsessions, depressions, eating disorders...). Besides his clinical work he does research on psychotherapy, therapy outcome and Burn Out, supervises psychologists and psychotherapists in their practical clinical work. Furthermore, he is a Supervising Therapist, Trainer and Coach for the Austrian Association of Systemic Therapies and Systemic Studies (ÖAS). He is also coaching managers and teams in work related problems, and conducts trainings in Systemic Therapy, Counseling, Communication, Burn Out and Teamwork. Since 1993 Mr. Geyerhofer has been a member of the core faculty of the department of psychology at Webster University Vienna, where he received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998.

Currently Mr. Geyerhofer is conducting research projects on Job Burn Out, Family Therapy, and the mutual influence of behavior and cognition.
