Prof. Oberlechner at Congress in Australia
Department Head Prof. Oberlechner will be participating as a guest presenter at the 27th International Congress of Applied Psychology held in Melbourne (Australia) this year in July. The congress is held every four years and is hosted by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). A number of prominent psychologists, researchers and key note speakers will be talking on key themes such as homelessness, poverty, terrorism, genocide and climate change, just to name a few.
Guest Lecture by Mag. Karin Macke
Therapist Karin Macke will be at Webster University to provide an insight into the Viennese Women´s Counseling Center, which was founded in 1981. The focus of attention is the psychotherapy from woman to woman, adopting a holistic approach to counseling. To ensure this, the women-specific psychotherapy takes into consideration the connections and interactions of economic, societal, physical and emotional problems.
"Inside the Banker's Mind"
The Global Association of Investment Professionals, CFA Institute, has invited Prof. Oberlechner to their next meeting on the leadership and innovation series: "Inside the Banker's Mind." The interview will center on the issue of how banker's have approached problems, how they innovate, and predicting how they will change their approaches in the future. Specifically in times of an economic downturn the issue of leadership and innovation becomes significant.

The Secret Power of Time Perspective: Influencing Individual Actions and National Destinies. A presentation by noted psychologist Dr. Philip Zimbardo
Time perspective is the way each person frames the flow of personal experiences. Although most people use the idea of past, present and future to categorize experience, many of us develop biased time perspectives. Every decision and action we take is in some way influenced by our specific time perspective. When large groups of people in various nations adopt common time biases, such as excessive focus on the past, present or future, it influences world events. Developing a balanced and unbiased time perspective is critical for well-being and success.
The Profession of Psychotherapy
Every culture has included individuals who were known for their extraordinary abilities to reduce distress and enhance health, but only in recent times have attempts been made to identify, systematize, measure, and teach these aptitudes. In this presentation, the various strands that have formed the basis of the profession of counseling or psychotherapy will be briefly highlighted-from the works of shamans, laboratory scientists, and Freud and his followers, to those of Carl Rogers and other person-centered practitioners.

First Burnout Congress provided by Webster University
Tired, exhausted, burnt out – 1, 5 Million Austrians feel the same. More people than expected experience job-related or personal burnout. This number was presented during the first international congress for Burnout & Job Engagement which took place in Vienna in 2006. The congress was organized by Webster University and lasted three days. 170 participants and 25 national and international experts gathered to discuss Burnout, Job Engagement and other related issues.
