PSYC2200 Child Psychology

Examines the physical, emotional, cognitive and social development of the child from conception to adolescence. The complex interaction between heredity and environment is considered.

Topics include: biological foundations, prenatal development, and birth; infancy; cognitive development; intelligence; language development; emotional development; self and social understanding; moral development; development of sex-related differences and gender roles; the family; peers, media and schooling. Critical thinking skills and an appreciation of scientific research is emphasized.

Prerequisite: PSYC 1100, or permission of the instructor.
