PSYC3775 Personality Theory
This course examines some of the major models of personality and focuses on clinical theories of personality. Psychoanalytic, behaviorist, cognitive, and humanistic approaches to personality such as Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic model, Alfred Adler’s individual psychology, C. G. Jung's analytic psychology, B.F. Skinner's behaviorism and followers, and Carl Rogers' person-centered theory.
Key concepts and assumptions about human nature underlying each model and the consequences for therapeutic interaction will be subject to explore. To learn about different personality theories and their therapeutic implications, discussions of theoretical readings, the analysis of case descriptions, and the use of videos about personality theories and theorists in action will be utilized to support the learning process.
Prerequisite: PSYC 1100 and 9 credit hours of psychology, or permission of the instructor.
