PSYC4400 Human Sexuality

This course examines human sexual behavior in its physiological, psychological and social aspects throughout the life span, as well as the cultural, social and political context affecting sexual development. Topics discussed include historical/cross-cultural sexual attitudes, reproductive health and rights, the range of sexual experience, gender differences and roles, sexual orientation, sex and disease, sex and social responsibility/personal ethics.

Students will understand and learn about the human sexual behavior in childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age; learn about varieties of sexual experience and sexually transmitted diseases; major theories and research on sexual orientation, and the process and ethics of sex therapy.

Prerequisite: PSYC 1100 and 12 credit hours of psychology, or permission of the instructor.
