PSYC4550 Drug and Chemical Dependency
The course introduces students to the history, pharmacology, and physiological effects (withdrawal signs) of a variety of commonly abused substances, such as alcohol, marijuana, hallucinogens, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and anabolic steroids.
The emphasis of the course is on the cultural and societal norms influencing the behavior of drug use and abuse; the symptoms of substance abuse/chemical dependency; how it is diagnosed; and treatment methods and approaches for drug abuse.
Prerequisite: PSYC 1100 and 12 credit hours of psychology, or permission of the instructor.
