Vienna is known as the birthplace of most prominent psychologists, physicians and psychotherapists. Sigmund Freud, Austrian neurologist and psychoanalyst, pioneered new methods and techniques with which he could uncover the source of various conflicts and neurosis; Austrian psychoanalyst Melanie Klein laid the foundations in a field in which the subjects were considered as not analyzable – child psychoanalysis. Another untouched area in psychology at the time involved the psychology and sexuality of women. Helene Deutsch, a radical and social rebel, was the first psychoanalyst to write a book about female psychology.
On our tour through Vienna’s Scientific/Psychological Scenery these and other prominent psychologists along with their favorite cafés and residential houses; test laboratories; museums and current exhibitions; psychiatric institutions; relief organizations; penal institutions; and psychological associations will be the focus of our explorations. Moreover, there will be many opportunities to meet directly with psychologists in several different fields of applied psychology to familiarize with their field of work and discuss issues that might be of importance to you and your future career!
