Activities and Objectives
This initiative provides an interdisciplinary forum for faculty and invited scholars to present research that engages with data, whether primary or secondary, and to foster dialogue on methodological approaches, analytical tools and applied evidence-based insights.
In addition to its ongoing research seminar series, the initiative annually organizes a doctoral research conference that provides doctoral researchers with a formal academic platform to present their work, receive scholarly feedback and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue with faculty members, peers and invited scholars.
The structure of the series is intentionally inclusive and welcoming to all disciplines and epistemological traditions. WVPU faculty members from any department are invited to:
- Present their own empirical research
- Nominate external speakers
- Host a guest researcher as part of the series
- Contribute to the annual doctoral research conference
Faculty who invite an external speaker will serve as the chair for that session.
Registration Now Open: PhD Conference in Economics, Social and Behavioral Sciences 2026
Sept. 23, 2026 | Webster Vienna Private University
The conference, hosted within the Empirical Edge Seminar Series, brings together doctoral researchers to present their empirical and data-driven research, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue across the fields of economics, the social sciences and the behavioral sciences.
The conference's primary objective is to promote scholarly dialogue and constructive feedback, helping early career researchers and PhD candidates to refine their ongoing research through meaningful academic exchange.
Indicative Themes and Methodological Approaches
The conference welcomes PhD candidates specializing in economics, finance, management, political economy and related behavioral and social sciences to submit empirical, data-driven research. We particularly encourage submissions that apply quantitative and analytical methods to examine contemporary economic, financial and organizational issues.
Empirical approaches, such as econometric analysis, statistical modeling, experimental or observational methods and related quantitative techniques form the central methodological focus of the conference.

PhD candidates are invited to submit extended abstracts via the submission form.
Submissions may be based on doctoral research at various stages of development, including advanced dissertation research, with early paper ideas and work in progress also welcome.
