Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) had the pleasure of hosting Professor Run Niu, PhD, at its campus in the Austrian capital last week. Niu is a professor of Operations Management at Webster's George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.

Niu earned her doctorate in Management Science from the School of Business at the University of Alberta. She also received undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Enterprise Management and a master’s degree in Management and Economics.

Throughout her time at the Webster Vienna campus, Niu engaged in a wide array of activities.

On April 17, she delivered a public lecture, “A Multistage Study on Supply Chain Risk Management in Practice.” During this lecture, Niu reported on her current research project in collaboration with the WVPU Business and Management Department Head Maria Madlberger, PhD, and Associate Professor of Operations Management at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Ying Fan, PhD.

The lecture delved into an extensive multi-stage study investigating supply chain risk management in China and Europe. Through in-depth interviews and a follow-up study with large-scale surveys, the research team will examine key practices in response, recovery, mitigation and preparedness. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the transformative impact of big data capabilities on supply chain risk management and learn from global comparisons.

Additionally, WVPU organized a comprehensive discussion between WVPU Business Management students and Niu. Throughout this session, students covered a wide array of topics related to student life at WVPU, student exchange opportunities with the United States, and other academic themes on the topic of supply chain management.

WVPU students, faculty and staff are looking forward to Niu’s next visit from the Webster Groves campus.
