The campus of Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) recently hosted the 2025 Vienna International Science & Engineering Fair, welcoming more than 140 young scientists and engineers from international schools across Austria and the surrounding region.

Held at Palais Wenkheim on April 26, the event brought together students, educators, judges and members of the public to celebrate innovation and scientific exploration. Organizers include the United Nations Nuclear Young Generation, the Vienna Chapter of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management and Women in Nuclear at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The annual event offers students a unique platform to explore science and engineering in a hands-on, engaging environment and to consider these fields as pathways for their future careers.

This year’s theme, “Innovations to Improve our Community,” encouraged students to develop creative technological solutions that address challenges on a local, regional or global scale. Whether tackling issues in sustainability, public health, infrastructure or education, participants applied their knowledge to nearly 70 projects, showcasing ways to make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

Each student who participated received a certificate of achievement, while cash prizes and other special awards were distributed to exceptional projects, particularly those that most closely aligned with the theme. Award categories included Innovation for Good — for projects that used science or engineering to make a real-world impact — and Design Creativity for the most innovative approach to solving a problem.

A panel of highly qualified judges from diverse backgrounds reviewed each submission and provided feedback and encouragement. In addition to the projects, the IAEA hosted “Science Rooms” where young IAEA employees presented their work to participating students and members of the public.

Events like the Vienna International Science & Engineering Fair are a powerful reminder of what’s possible when young minds are inspired and empowered. Webster Vienna is honored to contribute to that vision by serving as a host.

An education at WVPU prepares students for dynamic, international careers by cultivating a global perspective and a strong foundation in communication, analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration. Whether our students go on to work in diplomacy, business, psychology or marketing and communications, their ability to engage with scientific and technological issues is more important than ever.
